Twenty years ago - 1992

The Collins Draft Horse, Ox and Pony Club is holding its 10th annual plowing festival on the Pero property on Route 39. The all-day event will consist of a church service, bake sale, craft fair, wagon and pony rides, a long-rifle camp, and petting zoos. Organizers note that attendance at plowing festivals is on the increase with four times more people present, or about 10,000 more than were at their first event on May 1, 1983.

Thirty years ago - 1982

Incumbents Rosemary Dougherty and Nancy Renckens were re-elected to five-year terms on the Dunkirk Board of Education. Mrs. Dougherty polled 461 votes, Mrs. Renckens had 394 and first-time candidate Joseph Pokrzywka had 249. Mr. Pokrzywka is not sure of his future in politics. This was his first time on the ballot, but second try for public office. He received 24 votes in a write-in campaign for Fourth Ward Councilman in 1979.

Forty years ago - 1972

Two Japanese visitors toured the Petri Baking Products firm, 60 Franklin Ave., Dunkirk to inspect the facilities and discuss a joint venture.

Fifty years ago - 1962

Construction of a new 30-unit motel on Bennett Road has been completed. The motel, complete with restaurant and cocktail lounge, is owned by Anthony Seybold and Anthony Pietro.
