Lucky Lanes Junior Bowlers had four of its members qualify for the 2012 New York State Scholarship Tournament, which was sponsored by the Bowling Proprietors Association. The tournament was held on April 28, at Clover Lanes in Rochester. All four members earned scholarships for their bowling. Sam Kawksi competed in the boys’ Grades 4-under handicap division. Kawski finished second in the division with a three-game scratch score of 284 and a handicap score 621. He won a $250 scholarship. Makayla Pasierb took home a $75 scholarship for her seventh-place finish in the girls’ Grades 4-Under Handicap Division. She had a scratch score of 236 and a handicap score of 603 for three games. Samantha Moser finished third in the girls’ Grades 5-8 Handicap Division. Moser rolled a scratch score of 486 and a handicap score of 693 for the three games. She won a $100 scholarship. Lizzy Golubski competed in the girls Grades 9-Over Handicap Division. The bowlers in this division had to roll two blocks of three games. Lizzy was in 11th place after her first three games with a scratch score of 536, giving her 595 with handicap. She climbed seven places after bowling her next three games thanks to a 634 scratch score. Her handicap score of 693 put her in 4th after six games to make it to the step-ladder finals. She won her first head-to-head game 199-176. Her second game was a tough one, she lost 252-218. Golubski finished third overall in her division to win a $200 scholarship. Lucky Lanes 19, Dunkirk Exempts 4 - For Lucky Lanes, John Banach, Tyler White and Troy Lanski had three hits each and Patrick Muldowney added two hits. For Exempts, Ethan Yannie and Devin Szopinski had two hits each.

Wright League

Moose Club 2, American Legion 1 - Jake Tarnowski connected on a bases-loaded walk-off single in the bottom of the sixth inning to propel Moose Club to a one-run win. Kevin Siracuse was the winning pitcher, allowing one hit while striking out 10.

American Legion was led by the pitching of Jamison Horch, who allowed just four hits while striking out seven. Tyler Winchell had the lone hit in the loss.

Moose Club 14, Firemen 1 - Nathan Shuart went the distance for the Moose Club, tossing a two-hitter with eight strikeouts. Shuart also provided the offensive fire power with three doubles. Alex Patterson had two hits and Carlos Cruz recorded his first Wright League hit.

Firemen's two hits came from Josh Johnson and Lukey Green. Green and Jarett Maslak handled the pitching duties

Hart Development 11, Youth Council 1 - Chris Buchanan led the Hart Development offense with a two-run homer while Lucas Voss tripled and Brandon Wallace and Mike Hobson each had hits. Voss and Buchanan combined to strikeout 13 in the win.

Noah Fleckenstein and Braeden Myers tripled for Youth Council while Trey Swartz took the loss on the mound.

Firemen 9, Pucci's 8 - The Firemen held off a late charge from Pucci's to pick up the win.

Jake Green picked up the win on the bump, getting relief help from Ben Kyte. The two combined to strike out 10. Owen Nicosia and Nico Pucci pitched well in defeat, striking out 12.

Green led the Firemen offense, collecting three hits, including a home run. Kyte (double), Lucas Green (double) and Keith Piper all had two hits in the win.

Pucci's was led by Derrick Walters, who had two hits, including a double. and Pucci, who connected on a ground-rule double.

League Minors

Lake Shore Savings & Loan vs. Family Orthodontics - The Lady Bankers offense was led by Anna Pokoj and Courtney Zatorski while Madison Pagan and Summer Clard led the defense. Ashley Gotowka and Makayla Pasierb both pitched well.

For Family Orthodontics, Jane and Julia Fortna and Hailey Clutter each had three hits while Caelin Holt and Hallie Laurito controlled the defense. Erin Schrantz, Jamie Hemenger and Jane Fortna all tossed two innings in the circle.

Family Orthodontics vs. Westfield - Westfield was led by Katie Bodimiller and Kallie Loveles on defense while Montana Reardon and Brooklyn Bain provided the offense. Sarah Tilley and Jena Brooker each pitched two strong innings.

For Family Orthodontics, Caelin Holt and Ashley Ricker crossed home plate with a run while Julia Fortna and Khushprett Sandhu played well defensively. Holt and Madison Marsh each pitched two innings.

Fredonia T-Ball

Lucky Lanes vs. Beaver Club - For Lucky Lanes, Tyler Sullivan and Collin Pergrim were the offensive stars while Jeffrey Sayers picked up the game's defensive MVP award.

For the Beaver Club, Ian Storey and Dahlia Meringer were the offensive stars while Ella Stearns took home defensive MVP honors.

Hole-in-one

Hillview Golf Course

Steve Ubaney scored a hole-in-one on Hole No. 5. with a pitching wedge. The shot was witnessed by Lee Szalkowski.

Dunkirk Little League Picture Day scheduled

The following list gives the team name and the time each is sheduled for photos.

Picture day is slated for Saturday, May 19.

9:00 a.m.: E.D.F.F., Kosciuszko Club (Girls Major) and Nathan George (Girls Major).

9:20 a.m.: Dom Polski (Boys Minor), Dunkirk Falcons and Nathan George (Boys Minor).

9:40 a.m.: Western Division Credit Union, Moniuszko Club and One Stop Food Mart.

10:00 a.m.: Conservation Club, Ellie's Deli and Lakeside Club.

10:20 a.m.: Firefighter Local 616 (T-Ball) and Dom Polski (T-Ball).

10:40 a.m.: USWA Local 2693 and Moose Club.

11:00 a.m.: Lake Shore Savings, Local 912 and Kosciuszko Club (Girls Minor).

Fall Date Set For Cummins Run

Cummins Inc., Jamestown Engine Plant, will sponsor its sixth annual 5K run/walk to benefit the Prendergast Library Literacy Center, but the event has been postponed from spring to fall.

Saturday, Sept. 29, is the date chosen to accommodate availability of timers. The event has previously been held on the Saturday of Mother's Day weekend.

Golf Group Meeting

There will be a final meeting on Wednesday, May 16, at 7 p.m., at the Dunkirk Falcon Club for the Stahoo Golf Group. Foursomes will be picked for each day, program books will be given out, fees collected and travel arrangements will be finalized. Anyone unable to make the meeting should have their roommate pick up their program.

Horseshoe Season

Forestville flingers' Wednesday night handicap singles horseshoe league will be starting Wednesday, May 16, beginning at 6 p.m.

All those interested in pitching should show up to the Forestville Flingers horseshoe courts at 6 p.m. ready to play that night, or contact Diane Dorler at 965-2212 for further information.

Dunkirk Little League Chicken Dinner

Dunkirk Little League will hold a chicken dinner Saturday, May 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Ed Wisniewski Little League Complex at Wright Park.

The cost is $8 and includes a 1/2 chicken, two sides and a roll. Proceeds will benefit the Little League Program. For more information, contact Gary Haase at 679-6929.

Black Watch Soccer

Black Watch Premier Soccer Club is offering skill development sessions for boys and girls 8-10 years old every Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Fredonia State University. Walk-ins are welcome. Players will receive Black Watch practice gear and warm-up jacket.
