Community/Parent Information Night Thursday at CVCS

Parents and community members of the Cassadaga Valley Central School are invited to hear about the district's response to bullying Thursday at 6 p.m. in the CVCS Middle/High School multipurpose room.

The district is adopting the Olweus Anti-Bullying Program. Its goal is to have an entire community treat kids in a consistent way and promote values that will help kids. The district wants and needs everyone's help to make this successful. Pro-gram info can be found at www.violencepreventionworks.org. The meeting will be informational with a question and answer session to follow.

Cassadaga Job Corps will host tour and informational meeting

A tour and informational session will be held at the Cassadaga Job Corps Academy, 8115 Glasgow Road, Cassadaga, Thursday at 10 a.m. Anyone interested in learning more about Job Corps, the programs they offer and about life on campus is welcome to attend. Job Corps provides young people, age 16-24, with career technical training and the education needed to enter a career in a high demand occupation.

Cassadaga Job Corps offers training in the healthcare and construction industries and enrolls both residential and non-residential students from throughout the county. 'Shower' event today seeks donations

for Friendly Kitchen

The Chautauqua County Rural Ministry will hold a "shower" for the Friendly Kitchen.

The kitchen serves 33,000 meals annually, including breakfast, lunch and dinner. The "shower" will be an open house style held at Fredonia Presbyterian Church, 219 Central Ave. from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. today.

Some items needed at the soup kitchen are: dish towels, silverware, drinking glasses, glass coffee mugs, condiments (such as pepper, salt, ketchup), stainless steel cleaner, ziplock baggies, creamer, sugar, electric knife sharpener, paper napkins, grill lighters, slotted and regular large spoons, dish detergent, and storage containers.

The public is invited to stop by during the event. All donations are tax deductible as allowed by law.

For more information, call the Rural Ministry offices at 366-1787. Rural Ministry is a United Way of Northern Chautauqua County community partner.

Parent orientation Thursday for pre-k

There will be a parent orientation Thursday for the 2012-2013 Fredonia Elementary School pre-kindergarten program in the Elementary cafeteria. This hour-long orientation is for parents only and will be an overview of the pre-kindergarten program.

Parents can come and meet the teachers, hear about the pre-k expectations and guidelines, and meet some of the other pre-k parents. There will be a PTA meeting following the orientation for any parents interested in hearing about the opportunities within the Elementary PTA.

Westling to appear

on Senior Report

Senior Report with Reed Powers will have Vicki Westling as the guest on Saturday's television program. Westling's topic will be the Afghanistan disaster. The live, call-in program airs from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturdays. Individuals may call 753-5225 during that time with questions, comments or a shout-out. The program is rebroadcast each day at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. for some communities. Reed Powers, host of Senior Report, has been producing the television program since 1995. The series highlights senior citizen club news for 15 minutes with the remainder of the hour-long program devoted to the featured guest. The guest is subject to change.

Senior Report is shown live on Saturday mornings on Time Warner cable systems covering the following communities: Brocton, Cassadaga, Chautauqua, Fredonia, Mayville, North Harmony, Portland, Ripley, Sherman, Stockton and Westfield on Channel 5. In Dunkirk, Forestville, Hanover, Irving and Silver Creek the program is on channel 19. The show originates at the Access Channel 5 studio in Mayville.

Bridge closing Monday

Chautauqua County Bridge No. 801, on County Route 380 in Stockton between Fenner Road and County Route 57, will be closed to all traffic effective Monday due to the replacement of the bridge. A detour will be posted.
