Twenty years ago - 1992
New York State's Lakeview Correctional Facility near Brocton has become coed. Sixty-eight women have been transferred to the facility from the Summit Shock Facility in Schoharie County. The women have been admitted to the same program and under the same conditions as the 456 men now undergoing shock incarceration.
Thirty years ago - 1982
Young adults - those 25 to 34 years old - make up the single largest population group in Chautauqua County, according to the 1980 census. This is a sharp reversal from the 1970 census, where the largest group was made up of those 45 to 54. The median age in the county for 1980 is 31.6 years. There were 70,767 males and 76,158 females living in Chautauqua County in 1980.
Forty years ago - 1972
The Chauterie District of the Chau-tauqua County Council, Boy Scouts of America, continues to grow in active Scouting units. Scout Pack 10 has been organized at the Salvation Army in Dunkirk.
Fifty years ago - 1962
A large pamphlet rack has been donated to the Dunkirk Chamber of Commerce office by the woodshop at Dunkirk Industrial High School. Students who worked on it were Ralph L. Sackett, Charles P. Alaimo and Ronald Bouquin.
