Every community has its own heroes. On Monday, those heroes were remembered and celebrated throughout the area during Memorial Day services.
In Dunkirk, thousands weathered the heat and sun while taking in the ceremonies and the parade. Of note in the city, Art Casella was named marshal of the city parade while Dr. David Banach, retired U.S. Navy captain, spoke of the significance of Memorial Park.
Other communities showed up in a tribute to veterans as well.
It was very fitting how our communities took time to remember on a day off.
