Twenty years ago - 1992
Student of the Week is Jennifer Lynne Ohrn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bradley Ohrn of Sinclairville. A math and science major at Cassadaga Valley Central School, she ranks fourth in her class. Jennifer has been very active in high school music programs, including musicals, chorus and band. She has attended the Chautauqua Music Festival for chorus for six consecutive years. Following graduation, Jennifer will attend JCC where she has been awarded a USA Scholarship.
Thirty years ago - 1982
The Dunkirk Common Council voted recently to urge the county to build a new county office building on the site of the former Sacred Heart Church at Main and Ruggles streets. County Executive Joseph Gerace expressed doubts that the county legislature would go along with building a new building, but said he would look into it.
Forty years ago - 1972
The new Dunkirk city garage on Lucas Avenue is virtually complete. Located on the same site as the old garage, which was removed, the new building cost $239,132.
Fifty years ago - 1962
The Pet of the Week is a 6-month-old Collie named "Laddie" who belongs to Joel and Anna Galafara. They are the son and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Galafara, 632 Deer St., Dunkirk.
