There is strength in numbers when it comes to health care.
Looking to the east, a number of Buffalo's hospitals are connected to Kaleida Health in an effort to be more efficient and offer more choices for its population. In Erie, Hamot Hospital announced an affiliation with UPMC, which is based out of Pittsburgh.
Our area health care organization, Lake Erie Regional Health System of New York, is nearing an affiliation with UPMC Hamot in Erie. Though not yet finalized, the agreement will allow Brooks Memorial Hospital and TLC Health Network "to work collaboratively" with its new partner.
"We are confident the anticipated relationship with UPMC Hamot will avail our community and our organization to resources and expertise that will serve as a stabilizing force in our efforts to ensure a bright, sustainable future for LERHSNY and for the delivery of high quality health care throughout this region," Christoper Lanski, board of directors chair, and Jonathan Lawrence, chief executive officer, wrote to the OBSERVER last month.
Our hospitals are an important part of our communities. This potential agreement will make each facility stronger - and more viable for the future.
