Ripley Town Board members owe it to their constituency to be honest - even if it hurts to say no.
Last month, three high school students attended a board meeting asking town officials to consider building a football field. Currently, Ripley High School does not have a team of its own and student members now participate with Sherman.
Some of the students believe if a field is built, the town may host games in the future.
"We will look into seeing what we can do to help," Supervisor Doug Bowen said.
But unless there is some private donor looking to help in this endeavor, the town is powerless. It does not have the resources, population or tax base to make a football field happen in this economy.
Time to punt.
