Youth Baseball

Concord Babe Ruth League

Stericycle Athletics 6, Double A Vineyard Indians 5 - Hans Schober's single in the seventh inning drove in Garrett Johnson, capping a four-run rally to help the A's (4-1) defeat the Indians.

Singles by Dan Barnes, Nick Iskra, Zach Crandall (two-RBI), Zach Gawronski and a double by Brenden Maslak (two-RBI) led up to the Schober winning RBI. Iskra was the winning pitcher (nine strikeouts) with Barnes closing the game in the seventh.

The Tribe was led by Angel Torres and Dan Williams, each collecting two hits. Troy Smith was the losing pitcher in relief of Tyreek Ruiz. The pair struck out six batters in defeat.

Fredonia Wright League

Firemen 6, Puccis 4 - The Green Brothers led the Firemen hitting, as Jake cracked a pair of triples while Lucas chipped in two singles.

Ben Kyte, Jared Laurito, Josh Johnson, Devon Wiedenhofer and Diego Rey registered the rest of the hits for the Fireman.

Puccis' was led by Tyler Cain, who had a double and a home run. Dawson Rafan and Derrick Walters each doubled and Jason Genovese also reached base safely.

Kyte got the win on the mound for the Firemen, with assistance from closer Keith Piper. The duo combined efforts to strike out 10 Pucci batters. Rafan and Cain pitched well for Puccis, striking out 10 Firemen in return.

Parochial Softball Playoffs

St. Amelia's 4, Northern Chautauqua Catholic 3 - The Lady Monarch's season came to an end in a very close game as St. Amelia's plated the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

Caitlyn Cybart was the big hitter for NCCS with a triple, double and three RBIs. Quinn Bankoski and Brittany Lombardo each had one hit. Hannah Cybart was the tough-luck losing pitcher, allowing four hits while striking out 10. Brianna Gawronski was the standout defensive player.

Senior Baseball League

Braves 1, Pro Bat Yankees 0 - Mark Wallace and Bob Edwards locked up in a classic pitchers duel, going toe to toe for seven innings.

Edwards threw a complete-game shutout, allowing four hits while striking out seven and issuing two walks. Wallace scattered seven hits while striking out five and allowing three walks.

The Braves made several outstanding defensive plays in keeping the Yankees off the scoreboard. A triple by Dominick Borello set up the winning run, as he scored on a fielder's choice.

Dunkirk Moose Thursday Night Golf League - A Flight low scores: Dan Nichols 39, Mike Rylowicz 41, Gordy Haight 44, Pete Criscione 45, Gabe Bauza 45. B Flight low scores: Smokey Gloss 51, Rick Bauza 51, Paul Heyden 52, Mark Gugino 52.

DHS Sports Awards

The Dunkirk High School Sports Awards will be held Monday, June 18, at 6 pm., in the high school auditorium. All spring athletes, parents and interested community members are invited to attend.

Spring award winners will be announced as well as yearly Memorial Award winners.

Light refreshments will follow.

FHS Girls' Basketball Camp

Fredonia will host a girls basketball camp June 25-28, in the high school and middle school gymnasiums for girls entering grades 3-12. Each participant is expected to arrive at camp between 8:30-8:55 a.m., with the camp beginning promptly at 9 and running til 3:30 p.m.

Campers will work on learning the skills that will make them better basketball players. They will also take part in daily games and competitions.

The cost is $95 per camper and all participants are expected to bring their own lunches. Cold beverages will be for sale at lunch and at the end of each day. All participants should arrange to be picked up 3:30. All parents are welcome to attend the awards ceremony, which will be held Thursday, June 28, at 3 p.m.
