Dunkirk: Festivals begin with splash

June 11, 2012
The OBSERVER

With the first Music on the Pier and the Wreck and Roll event complete, it is official: the festival season in Dunkirk has arrived.

It all began on Thursday when the band Jersey, which played a number of Bruce Springsteen hits, took to the stage. An excellent first performance - as well as a packed pier - made for a memorable night.

Weather also turned favorable despite some concern for rain. "I lived in Dunkirk for 34 years and have been waiting for years for something to be done like this," Dunkirk resident Ron Veklotz said. "The last five years, it's been great."

If opening night is any indication, it is going to be a special summer in Chadwick Bay on Lake Erie.
