SHERIDAN - Summer 2012 is just around the corner and the Town of Sheridan's Summer Youth Recreation Program is ramping up for another great season.
The program is scheduled to begin June 25 and run for six weeks through Aug. 3. (There will be no program on July 5 in observance of the Independence Day holiday).
Program hours are 9 a.m. to noon and meet most days at the Sheridan Memorial Field on Center Road.
The support staff includes program veterans Kathy Rankin, Chris Gowan, Garret Johnson, and Tyler Steklasa, along with Sherry Ohl, who is new to the program. Director Shannon Aures Karcz is pleased to offer a great summer program in this, her sixth summer leading the program.
Activities include weekly swimming, creative arts and crafts, team building, guest speakers, music, a Sweet Rewards of Reading Program, cooking, community service, sports and games, excellent field trips and much more. Just a few of this year's field trips include Waldameer Park, the annual tank wash, and a trip to the Chautauqua Safety Village.
Families are welcome to participate in many of the activities. The program is open to children and grandchildren of town of Sheridan residents who are entering kindergarten through age 13. There is no registration fee, but there are nominal fees for some activities and a program T-shirt must be purchased and worn for all off-site activities.
