The 2012 baseball and softball All-Western New York teams were announced recently, with several players from local schools making either the first- or second-teams, as well as honorable mention.
In baseball, Fredonia's Trent Thompson, a junior, was named as a first-team infielder while Lake Shore's Christ Conley, also a junior, was the first-team catcher. On the second team was Silver Creek senior outfielder Kevin Rocque while making honorable mention were Austin Alonge (Westfield), Trey Bley (North Collins), Zack Buckley (Fredonia), Clayton Cerne (North Collins), Zack Fancher (Pine Valley), Nick Hart (Fredonia), Lyle Howard (Pine Valley), Kyle Sherman (North Collins) and Jed Walsh (Chautauqua Lake).

Fredonia junior Trent Thompson, seen here pitching this spring, was named to the All-Western New York First Team as an infielder. When not pitching, Thompson spent the majority of his time playing shortstop for Vince Gullo’s Hillbillies, who came within a win of returning to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s Class B semifinals, falling to Wayland-Cohocton in the Far West Regional.
Frewsburg senior standout Thad Johnson, the State's all-time leader in career hits, was named Player of the Year.
The softball All Western New York teams were broken down into large- and small-school categories, with Dunkirk's Khee Nance (junior), Alayna Carlson (senior) and Aldyn Carlson (senior) leading the way. Nance made the first team as an infielder while twin sisters Alayna and Aldyn, made the team as a catcher and pitcher, respectively.
Also making the first team was Forestville's junior fireballer Ryanne Dugan, who pitched the Lady Hornets into the New York State Public High School Athletic Association's Class D Far West Regional for the second straight season.
Names as honorable mention were Cassadaga Valley's junior infielder Kristi Zink, and North Collins' senior infielder Hannah Renaldo.
