Fredonia’s Thompson racks up more accolades

The CCAA Division 1 baseball all-star teams were announced recently, with Fredonia's Trent Thompson taking home both Pitcher of the Year and Player of the Year honors.

Joining Thompson (3-1, 1.24 ERA) as First-Team pitchers were Dunkirk's Alex Kubera (3-2, 2.26 ERA) and Olean's Brad Painter (3-0, 1.96 ERA). The Hillbillies' Zack Buckley (.528 AVG) was the First-Team catcher while infielders included Dunkirk's Clayton Cieslewicz (.512 AVG), Falconer's Jared Aiken (.439 AVG), Southwestern's Tyler Uber (.400 AVG) and Olean's Kyle George (.483 AVG, 18 walks). Utility players included Southwestern's Shane Marucci (.486 AVG, .730 SLG) and Olean's Ben McGraw (.476 AVG).

First-Team selections in the outfield included Fredonia's Nick Hart (.390 AVG, 14 stolen bases), Gowanda's Nick Huffman (.334 AVG, six outfield assists), Southwestern's Jake Swan (.487 AVG, .659 SLG) and Allegany-Limestone's Josh Harrington.

Alex Kubera, right, was named a CCAA?Division 1 all-star, earning a spot on the First Team, after going 3-2 in league play with a 2.26 ERA for the Dunkirk Marauders.

A trio of Fredonia infielders highlighted the Second Team's infield as Weston Ley, Connor Farnham and Brett Lutz all had all-star caliber seasons.

Joining Ley, Farnham and Lutz on the Second Team were Dunkirk's Kevin Burns and Allegany-Limestone's Kevin Wentworth. Utility players were Ryan Boutelle (Gowanda) and Jake Youngberg (Falconer).

In the outfield were Dunkirk's Kevin Holmes, Gowanda's Alex Sternisha and Olean's Pat Scholla and Brock Blovsky.

Dunkirk's Max Schrantz and Fredonia's Cameron Voss were named as Second-Team pitchers while Southwestern's Noah Weinstein was the catcher.

Honorable Mention went to Jude Gardner (Fredonia), Josh Mleczko (Dunkirk), Evan Ryan (Olean), Pete Trathen (Southwestern), Jake Hansen-Ivett (Gowanda), Mike Wilcox (Falconer) and Shawn Dubin (Allegany-Limestone).
