Jammers to open season with a bang tonight

JAMESTOWN - It's time for Jammers baseball.

The Jamestown Jammers kick off their season today at Russell Diethrick Jr. Park at 7:05 p.m. There will be a postgame fireworks show sponsored by Superior Bat Company.

Joining the Jammers this season are some of the top picks from the Marlins out of the SEC with shortstops Austin Nola and Anthony Gomez, as well as college pitchers Drew Steckenrider, a righty from tennessee, right-hander Ryan Newell, from Shorter College, GA, and Nick Witgren, a righty from Purdue. Also on the Jammers are some returning players from last season's team, Pedro Mendoza, Helpi Reyes, Viosergy Rosa and Kentrell Dewitt.

The Jammers host the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, the Single A Short-Season Affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. Joining the Scrappers is first-round draft pick Tyler Naquin, an outfielder from Texas A & M.
