Justin P. Goetz, son of Dr. and Mrs. Thomas H. Goetz of Pine Drive, Fredonia will attend Allegheny College this fall as a Provost's Merit Award recipient. He will receive $2,500 a year for four years. Students with strong academic records, distinguished achievements and community service are considered for the award. Justin is a senior at Fredonia High School.

Carl Joy, a senior at Silver Creek Central School, placed fifth in the nation in the heavyweight class (weightlifting) for ages 16 and 17 in a meet held in Erie.
Fifty years ago - 1962
One of the oldest residences in the city of Dunkirk located at 633 Washington Ave., Dunkirk is being razed by its owner, Russell J. Valone, of 618 Washington Ave. For many years the home, believed to have been built about 1860, was occupied by the Michael J. Donovan family.
