Barker Library announces summer reading programs

June 25, 2012
The OBSERVER

The Children's Room at Barker Library announces the summer reading program schedule for this summer. Programs will begin on Monday, July 9 and conclude on Friday, Aug. 10.

Children going into pre-K through second grade are invited to take part in two different programs. Bookaroos will be on Mondays or Thursdays from 10 to 11 a.m. This storytime and craft program has been a hit for many years. Call the library at 672-8051 to sign up. Walk Through the Hundred-Acre Wood will be Mondays and Thursdays anytime between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. This is a board game based on A.A. Milne's "Winnie the Pooh." Children earn prizes by telling the librarian about books read to them and moving around the game board. Children may play as many times as they choose.

Another old favorite - children going into grades 3 to 6 play a board game based on "Monopoly." The board spaces give them a type (fiction, nonfiction, poetry, biography, etc.) of book to read from the Juvenile section of the library. They earn prizes by telling the librarian about these books.

Young people above sixth grade may also play Bookopoly using books from the Young Adult or Adult sections of the library.

Preschool storytime will be on Fridays at 10 a.m. featuring stories, films and songs for little people.

As a special treat, on Monday, July 23 at 7 p.m., Omnipresent Puppet Theatre will present "Sleeping Beauty" in the library's Steele Room. Families and folks of all ages are invited to share in this performance.

As always, all programs are open to everyone and free of charge. These programs are presented with the generous support of the Friends of the Barker Library.

For more information, call the library at 672-8051.
