When the Summer Olympic Games begin next month in London, area residents will again have a reason to cheer even more for the red, white and blue.
Jennifer Suhr, a Fredonia native, will be representing the United States in the pole-vaulting competition. Her husband and coach, Rick Suhr, told sports reporter Gib Snyder III earlier this year about the dedication his wife has to being at the top of her game.
"There are a lot of very good athletes out there," he said in January. "But I don't think Jenn gets out-worked by anybody. Jenn has a work ethic that is unparalleled by anyone in my opinion. The amount of dedication, the amount of attention to detail and the specifics that she works on ... And her healthy lifestyle. She surrounds herself with great people and successful people and she knows how to work on detailed things. She is an overachiever when it comes to working. It's just incredible. To become the best in the world at anything takes tremendous skill and time."
Suhr's trip to the Olympics is an exciting time for this region. In 2008, she made us proud by winning the silver. In 2012, she has made us proud again.
