Harold R. Smith, of Dunkirk died Tuesday (June 26, 2012) at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk.
He was born Dec. 28, 1923 in Dunkirk, the son of the late Robert and Mildred Smith.
A lifelong resident of Dunkirk, Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Harold was the proprietor of Main Appliance in Dunkirk for many years.
He was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.
Survivors include one son, Kevin Smith of Dunkirk; three daughters, Tracy Smith and Molly (Mark Gombar) Smith, both of Dunkirk, and Amy (Daniel) Lewandowski of Fredonia; several grandchildren; great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Callagee) Smith, who died Feb. 15, 1999, and one sister, Beatrice Timmerman.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Memorials may be made to Hospice Chautauqua County, 20 W. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, N.Y. 14750 or Lakeshore Humane Society, P.O. Box 12, Fredonia, N.Y. 14063.
