A Fredonia man was taken into custody Wednesday evening after being accused of threatening a person with a gun in Dunkirk.
According to Dunkirk Police, Cody W. McCool, 20, of 120 Cushing St., was charged with second-degree menacing and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
At about 7 p.m., officers responded to the area of East Seventh and Leopard streets after receiving a report of a man brandishing a gun. While en route to that location, officers received information that the subject with the gun had left the scene and was traveling west on Seventh Street in a car. A description of the car was broadcast and police located the vehicle on Seventh Street near Central Avenue. Once the vehicle turned south on Central Avenue and was in a less populated area, officers were able to stop the vehicle and surround it.
McCool was ordered out of the vehicle and onto the ground. Shotgun rounds were reportedly spotted in the front seat of the car. McCool was handcuffed and placed in a patrol car. The police reportedly located a pump action 12 gauge shotgun and additional ammunition in McCool's vehicle.
The police interviewed witnesses and located a victim. They reported that McCool had been involved in a confrontation with other individuals and during that confrontation, removed the shotgun from his car and pointed it at another person before fleeing the scene.
McCool was held in lieu of $1,000 bail and was awaiting arraignment at press time.
