MAYVILLE Bernard C. "Bernie" Newhouse, 78, of 72 Valley St., Mayville, NY passed away Thursday (June 28, 2012) at home following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in French Creek, NY July 12, 1933, the son of the late Roy and Ruth Shaw Newhouse.
Bernie was a 1952 graduate of Clymer Central School and was a veteran of the US Army Combat of Engineer Corp.

He was employed at Standard Portable in May-ville for 44 years, of which he was Vice President and General Manager for 30 years.
Bernie was a member of the Mayville United Methodist Church, Chautauqua Lake Memorial VFW Post 8647 of which he was a charter and lifetime member, the American Legion Post 494 and had been very active in the Mayville/Chautauqua Little League.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He en-joyed spending winters in Naples, Fla.; he also enjoyed golfing, baseball, country music and collecting political memorabilia.
Bernie is survived by his wife of 49 years, Betty Thompson Newhouse whom he married Valentine's Day, February 14, 1963.
He is survived by his children Scott (Liz) Newhouse of Naples, Fla., Tammy Buck of Jamestown, NY, Cathleen Benton of Stockton, NY and Richard (Juanita) Hubbell of Mayville, NY and grandsons; Ethan Newhouse of Naples, Fla., and Shane Hubbell of Mayville; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Derek and Hyacinth Hubbell.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Teri Newhouse in 2005, a son-in-law, Paul Benton in 2008 and a sister Edna Cook in 2009.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Mon-day in the Freay Funeral Home, Mayville. Rev. Mark Parsons will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
