Twenty years ago - 1992

The third annual pet photo contest was sponsored by the Lakeshore Humane Society through the cooperation of Hills Department Store, Vineyard Drive, Dunkirk. Highest monetary donations by the public determined the winner. First prize winner of a $100 savings bond was Miranda Alexander; second place went to Leanne Maniscalco; and third place to Deb Swierk.

Thirty years ago - 1982

A ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the grand opening all this week of Bits & Bytes Computing Inc. at its new location at 21 Water St. in Fredonia. The new owners are Richard and Barbara Steinfeldt, and Barbara and Lee Servatius. The business formerly was located in the Fenner Building, 33 Church St., Fredonia.

Forty years ago - 1972

Dunkirk Council 929, Knights of Columbus, has received a plaque which bears the names of all past grand knights of the organization since 1904. The plaque was made by Clyde Johnson Jr.

Fifty years ago - 1962

John Catalano, a route salesman for the N.S. Briggs & Sons Dairy of Dunkirk, was presented with a motor-driven rotisserie grill valued at $75 for winning a contest among route salesmen from various dairies in Silver Creek, Fredonia and Dunkirk. He won by selling more orange juice than the other drivers.
