Locals and visitors are invited to join in a discussion of gardening memoir "The Quarter Acre Farm" by Spring Warren at 10:30 a.m. this Saturday at the Fredonia Farmers Market. The book chronicles the journey of a wife and mother's attempt to grow 75 percent of her family's food for a year. Throughout the novel, Warren provides clever anecdotes, practical gardening tips, recipes, and humor. Readers will also enjoy the easy going style of Warren's narrative and the abstract illustrations that accompany each chapter. This event is free and open to all. However, "The Quarter Acre Garden" will not be available for purchase at the market, so attendees are asked to bring their own copies.
For those who wish to attend future Fredonia Farmers' Market Book Club meetings, the next book in the series is "Prodigal Summer" by Barbara Kingsolver. This meeting will take place on Aug. 11 at 10:30 a.m.
Vendors at the Fredonia Farmers' Market sell fresh produce, humanely raised meats, honey, maple products, free range eggs, goat milk products, bread and baked goods, fresh flowers, knit wear, beach glass jewelry, candles and more. SNAP benefits are accepted for approved food items. The market is held Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Church Street. Events are posted weekly on the Fredonia Farmers' Market's Facebook page.
