The Dunkirk Board of Education will have a new face to lead the board for the upcoming year.
Dunkirk Board of Education President Roosevelt Haynes resigned at the annual reorganizational meeting held Tuesday night. Roosevelt addressed the board at the beginning of the meeting and announced his resignation due to time conflicts. He then thanked the board and the school district.
"We will miss him," Superintendent Gary Cerne said.

The board went in to a brief executive session to address the vacancy. The board has decided to wait until the August meeting to explore options and will discuss the matter further.
With a vacancy for presidency, board member Kenneth Kozlowski was elected president. Other annual elections included David Damico as vice president, Linda Guy as clerk and Amy Ahlstrom as assistant clerk. The board also swore in two new members, Claudia Szczerbacki and Amy Ahlstrom. The women won seats on the board in the November elections. Student member of the board, Christina Aviles was not sworn in due to illness and will be sworn in at the August meeting.
The board approved to meet on the second Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. for regular meetings in the large group instruction room at the high school.
In other business:
Robert Genco was appointed as the varsity football head coach and Jerome Moss was appointed as the varsity football assistant coach. Also, Marion Mistretta was appointed the boys' varsity bowling head coach.
Leslie Escobar was appointed as Clerk II (Spanish speaking); Tina Curry as elementary AIS teacher; and Erin Alexander as elementary AIS teacher.
The board will hold a special meeting on July 25 at 7:30 a.m. to discuss lunch program bids.
The following resignations were approved: Gretchen Weidner as art teacher for summer enrichment program; Margie Carlson as foreign language department chair; Donna Kubera as physical education teacher for high school credit recovery program.

Cerne announced the August meeting will be paperless. "We've talked about going paperless. .... August will be our first attempt at being paperless," he said. "We'll send (the packets) via email and when you (the board) come in on meeting night, we'll have laptops set up for you. The agenda will be on the screen for the audience."
The board showed appreciation to outgoing board members Bridget Majka and Gary Pignataro. The terms for both expired June 30.
