I attended my son's preschool graduation recently at the Catholic Academy of the Holy Family. It was a joyous occasion knowing that he will now officially be a kindergartener and off on his way toward a successful school career. It was also a very sad day knowing that his schooling won't be continued at Holy Family.
After the news of the Catholic Academy of the Holy Family's closing was announced, all of the parents were absolutely stunned. How could the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo close a school that raised sufficient funding with only two months notice?
I personally called the office of Dr. Rosemary Henry, the Superintendent of Catholic Education for the Diocese of Buffalo and was told by one of her staff that the local board had sufficient notice of the need to improve enrollment and raise funding.
Why then weren't the parents notified of this need sooner?
I feel that the ideals, values, and education my son would receive at the Catholic Academy of the Holy Family was important and certainly worth fighting to keep in the Jamestown area. Why then didn't those with firsthand knowledge of the Diocese's intentions feel the same way? I know I'm not the only parent who would like answers to these questions.
