City pier closed

Due to cleanup from the fireworks display and setting up for Music on the Pier, the city of Dunkirk pier will remain closed until Friday morning.

Music on the Pier

Today's city of Dunkirk Music on the Pier series features the Big 80s band. Big 80s is the ultimate '80s dance band. With gnarly costumes, hot songs, and multimedia nostalgia video screens, you'll hear hits from Prince, The Cars, Rick Springfield, David Bowie, and many, many more! Music is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.

Reapportionment meeting set

There will be a reapportionment meeting of the Chautauqua County Legislature on Tuesday, July 10 at 6:30 p.m., in Room #331 of the Gerace Office Building, Mayville.

Fly-In Breakfast set for July 8

The annual Fly-In Breakfast, held by the Rotary Club of Dunkirk, will take place Sunday at the Dunkirk Airport.

Included in the breakfast are eggs, sausage, pancakes as well as coffee or orange juice and milk. Old aircrafts will be on display as well as a silent auction and craft show.

Tickets to the event are $5 for adults and $3 for children - presale and at the door.

Pomfret seeks dog enumerator

The Town of Pomfret is anticipating a need for an additional dog enumerator. Interested parties are directed to write a letter of interest to Town Supervisor Donald Steger, Pomfret Town Hall, 9 Day St., Fredonia, NY 14063.

Portland dog census

The town of Portland will conduct a dog census beginning July 9. All residents in the village of Brocton and the town of Portland will be included.

License fees are $7 for spayed or neutered dogs; $15 for non-spayed or non-neutered dogs.

There will be an added $10 enumeration fee for each unlicensed dog. To avoid this fee, owners must register unlicensed doge before visited by the enumerator.

Residents may license their dogs at the Town of Portland Clerk's Office, 87 W. Main St., Brocton, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Tuesday's from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Owners will need to show proof of current rabies vaccination and proof of spaying or neutering.

Saturday is South Dayton community yard sales day

The first annual South Dayton Community Yard Sales are scheduled for Saturday, July 7. This event is sponsored by the South Dayton Community Organization.

Maps will be sold on Friday and Saturday at the booth in the Village Square. Maps are $1, and all proceeds go to South Dayton Community Organization sponsored events. There are many people from the village participating in this year's event.

Look for signs at the Square to find the booth. While you are at the square, Please visit the Farmers Market on Saturday starting at 9 a.m. Music will be played in the gazebo.

Also on Friday to Sunday, the annual Tractor Pulls will be held at the Fireman's Grounds behind the Fire Department on Maple St. Come see all the tractors, kids' events, pig roast and chicken barbecue.

The next meeting for the South Dayton Community Organization will be held on July 17 at 7 p.m. in the village library. All meetings are open and anyone is welcome to join.
