Twenty years ago - 1992
Retiring Silver Creek elementary principal Michael Goth poses with the quilt given to him recently. The quilt is made of over 300 pieces of fabric, most from scraps of students' clothing. He plans to devote a wall to displaying the quilt at home. Mr. Goth's career in education spans 32 years. He has spent a quarter century as an elementary principal with over 15 years in Silver Creek.
Thirty years ago - 1982
The Dunkirk Patriots Senior Drum and Bugle Corps took three first-place honors during the Fourth of July weekend. The corps traveled to Sardinia on Friday, Mayville on Saturday and Erie on Sunday to compete in the Fourth of July celebrations. The Patriots placed first in all three parades. After marching this weekend, the Patriots performed a concert at the Kosciuszko Club.
Forty years ago - 1972
Dr. Harry King, dean emeritus, presented two Belgian art works to Fredonia State University College this week. Accepting was Dr. Robert Marvel, dean for fine and performing arts.
Fifty years ago - 1962
Following a public hearing, the Dunkirk Common Council voted not to rezone that portion of Central Avenue from McGraw's Funeral Home to the Nickel Plate railroad from residential to commercial.
