Traffic stop leads to felony assault charge

ELLICOTT - On Tuesday, state police at Jamestown charged Kayla A. Norris, 20, of Jamestown with second-degree assault, a class D felony and fourth-degree possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor.

A State trooper pulled over a vehicle on State Route 60 at about 10:10 p.m. for a cell phone infraction. The officer noticed that the driver had recently suffered facial injuries. Upon interview, it was discovered that the driver had been assaulted while at a residence in Jamestown.

Norris reportedly struck the victim several times with a baseball bat, causing injuries to his face and body.

She was charged and turned over to the city of Jamestown Police where she was held pending arraignment.

South Dayton man awaiting extradition to Maine

SOUTH DAYTON - On Tuesday, troopers from Collins charged Guy Ricketts, 33, of Cassadaga Road in South Dayton for being a fugitive from justice, after a bad check investigation.

Ricketts reportedly passed over $1,300 worth of bad checks at the Super Duper in South Dayton on numerous dates in May and June. He was subsequently detained and charged with 14 counts of issuing a bad check. After a computer check, officers found he was wanted by the Portland Maine Police Department on a class "C" assault arrest warrant.

He was processed at the barracks in Collins, arraigned in Dayton Town Court and remanded to the Cattaraugus County Jail in Little Valley on $10,000 bail. He is currently awaiting extradition to Maine.
