Free baseball,

softball hitting clinic

On Thursday, July 12 and Friday, July 13 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., the FredoniaPomfret Recreation Department, in conjunction with the Center for Sports Skill Measurement and Improvement, will host a baseball and softball hitting clinic at Russell Joy Park for boys and girls between the ages of 10-16. Attendees should bring their own bats if possible.

The clinic will be conducted by the center's founder, Kevin Morse. After a warm up, all players will be given a baseline tee exit speed number. The instruction will be an overview of the seven functional skills required to maximize exit velocity - leverage, absorption, elastic energy, pitch timing, body timing, momentum and sweet spot awareness.

The center works closely with one of the pioneers of maximizing exit velocity, Perry Husband. Morse is a Husband-certified instructor and since May has conducted hitting clinics in Georgia, Mississippi, West Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio to more than 200 players.

The clinic will be limited to 20 players each day and players must be Village of Fredonia, Town of Pomfret or Fredonia Central School residents to attend.

Call the FredoniaPomfret Recreation Office at 679-2311 to pre-register.
