MAYVILLE - Chautauqua County Executive Gregory J. Edwards and the Southern Tier West Regional Planning & Development Board are seeking three motivated residents from Chautauqua County to serve on the Southern Tier West Planning Board.
The board was created in 1969 by a resolution of the County Legislatures of Allegany, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties and helps coordinate and enhance planning and develops activities that promote social, physical, and economic development in the region.
The board is made up of 16 members, five from each of the three counties and one from the Seneca Nation of Indians. As the region covers three counties and more than 127 municipalities, it is important all board members keep in mind these board member responsibilities:
The board has programs in Watershed Assessment, Local Government, Records Management, Geographic Information Systems, Transportation, Energy, Local Foods, Healthcare, Small Business Financing, and Workforce.
"Chautauqua County needs three representatives to serve on the board and we are looking for two elected leaders and one member at-large to fill these vacancies," Edwards said.
Chautauqua County representatives are appointed by the County Executive and are subject to the review and approval of the Chautauqua County Legislature. Members serve a three-year term and can seek re-appointment upon the expiration of their term. Meetings are generally held on the third Thursday of every month from noon to 3 p.m. at Southern Tier West at 4039 Route 219 in Salamanca.
