Daughters of the American Revolution plans DAR Day

Local DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution members who are helping prepare for the annual DAR Day at Chautauqua, Monday, July 16 include Jamestown Regent Sharon Terwillliger, Vice Regent Linda Cass, Treasurer Susan Erickson, Recording Secretary Bonnie Larkin, Chaplain Cecilia Bingham, Wendy Dyment, Nell Lucas, Alice Paulus and Mercy Warren. Janice Weitz, associate member of Jamestown Chapter and an officer of the Daytona Beach, Fla., chapter is coordinating the affair.

Sponsored by the Jamestown Chapter of DAR, the event is planned to make it possible for those who belong to organizations honoring the Patriots of the Revolutionary War and who may be visiting Chautauqua Institution to network with members from the 8th District of the National Association of the DAR in New York state which encompasses the territory from the 8 far western counties in New York state. Attendees in 2011 were from Florida, Indiana, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Texas.

Distinguished speakers include Dr. Arthur Salz, professor of education at Queens College, City University of New York, who will talk abut the Jewish Involvement in the American Revolution and Dr. Salz, vice president of the Hebrew Congregation of Chautauqua.
