Twenty years ago - 1992

Emily and Chuck Joy of Silver Creek won first place in their respective age and weight divisions at the American Weightlifting Association Nationals in Mesa, Ariz., on June 19. Emily, 10, had a 66 1/2-pound clean and jerk to set a national record in the newly-formed Girls Youth Division. Chuck, 12, made all of his lifts, finished with a personal record total of 209 pounds and exhibited the best technique of the meet.

Thirty years ago - 1982

Calendar Girl of the Month is Kellie Austin, 16, daughter of Raymond and Lana Austin of Cottage Road, South Dayton. A student at Pine Valley Central School, Kellie works in the family-owned restaurant in South Dayton. She plans to study business or computer science in college.

Forty years ago - 1972

Thomas Boedicker of Moravia has been hired as the new elementary principal at Silver Creek Central School. He succeeds Melvin Hall, who retired, and will receive a salary of $14,000 for 11 months.

Fifty years ago 1962

Pictured in today's OBSERVER is Leo Duliba, 15, who has a collection of rare paper currency he plans to display at the Chautauqua County Fair. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William E. Duliba, 413 Columbus St., Dunkirk.
