Twenty years ago - 1992

Seneca Indians are warning government officials that they will oppose state efforts to collect sales taxes on reservation sales to non-Indians. "There's a new war cry in Indian country and it says, 'No More Broken Treaties,' wrote the co-chairman of the Seneca Coalition Against Taxes group, Larry Ballagh, in a letter to Gov. Cuomo. The Seneca Tribal Council voted last week to void all right-of-way agreements with utilities, authorities or any state department if the state authorizes a move to collect the sales tax from non-Indians.

Thirty years ago - 1982

Thomas E. Reed, president of Dunkirk Radiator Corp. was unanimously elected chairman of The Hydronics Institute at its annual meeting held recently. Mr. Reed was re-elected to The Institute's Board of Directors where he has served for several years in shaping the policies of the industry in bringing energy-efficient heating equipment to residential and commercial building owners.
