Gas prices rise

Average retail gasoline prices in Rochester have risen 3.5 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.56/g Sunday.

This compares with the national average that has not moved in the last week to $3.42/g, according to gasoline price website RochesterGasPrices.com.

Including the change in gas prices in Rochester during the past week, prices yesterday were 25.6 cents per gallon lower than the same day one year ago and are 8.3 cents per gallon lower than a month ago.

The national average has decreased 11.0 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 24.7 cents per gallon lower than this day one year ago.

MaryAnn Spanos to appear on Senior Report

Senior Report with Reed Powers will have MaryAnn Spanos as the guest on the July 21st television program. Dr. Spanos is the director of the Chautauqua County Office for the Aging. The live, call-in program airs from 9:00 to 10:00 AM on Saturday morning. Individuals may call 753-5225 during that time with questions, comments or a shout-out.

The program is rebroadcast each day at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. for some communities.

Reed Powers, host of Senior Report, has been producing the television program since 1995. The series highlights senior citizen club news for 15 minutes with the remainder of the hour-long program devoted to the featured guest.

The guest is subject to change.

Senior Report is shown live on Saturday mornings on Time Warner cable systems covering the following communities: Brocton, Cassadaga, Chautauqua, Fredonia, Mayville, North Harmony, Portland, Ripley, Sherman, Stockton and Westfield on Channel 5. In Dunkirk, Forestville, Hanover, Irving and Silver Creek the program is on channel 19.

The show originates at the Access Channel 5 studio in Mayville.

Dunkirk Town Board to hold special

meeting Thursday

The Dunkirk Town Board will hold a special meeting at 5 p.m. Thursday at the town hall, 4737 Willow Road.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss a request from A. Sam Farm to use the Town Right of Way to run a 6-inch aluminum pipe in drainage ditches, starting at Lake Erie in the area north of Shorewood Country Club and proceeding to a pond located on the west side of Wilbur Road in the Town of Pomfret.

National Breast Cancer fundraiser Wednesday

On Wednesday from 4 to 10 p.m., the National Breast Cancer Foundation Inc., will receive 10 percent of the evening's pre-tax receipts at Denny's on Bennett Road, Fredonia.

Town of Dunkirk planning board to meet Wednesday

The Town of Dunkirk Planning Board will conduct a workshop at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the town hall, 4737 Willow Road.

The first part of the workshop will be discussion on the development of a comprehnesive plan.

The second part of the worskhop will begin the review of the Dunkirk Meadows Housing mixed use development site plans.

Summer concerts in Moore Park begin Wednesday

The Village of Westfield Recreation Department is pleased to announce the Concerts in Moore Park Series.

On Wednesday, Skip Roberts will perform sponsored by Better Baked Foods Inc., on July 25, the Wallace/Farina Swing Band, sponsored by Robert P. Ducato, Agent, New York Life Insurance Company and on Aug. 1, the Rustic Ramblers, sponsored by Renold Inc.

These performances are brought to you free of charge. Remember to bring your own seating.

In case of rain, the concerts will be held at Absolut at Westfield health care facility, 26 Cass St.

Nickel City Reptiles and Exotics coming Monday

The Fredonia-Pomfret Recreation Department Picnic in the Park series is rescheduling the appearance of Nickel City Reptiles and Exotics for Monday. The program will take place at the Barker Commons Gazebo and will run from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. Nickel City Reptiles and Exotics is an educational outreach program featuring animals from all over the world. Playground supervisors will escort children from playground sites to and from the event. Children must have a signed permission slip to attend. All playgrounds will close from 3 until 4:45 p.m. Community members are welcome.
