St. John’s 55ers gather for celebration

July 21, 2012
The OBSERVER

The St. John's 55ers met Wednesday at the home of Josie Costa Christopher for a garden party. The group had lunch on the porch to be sheltered from the rain and socialized as they ate. Much of the conversation revolved around what each member was doing for the community and about the Circle of Love.

From the porch, members could see and discussed what they liked about Christopher's garden. The decor, the ferns and the array of benches and tables were a few of the favorites.

The group is very welcoming to all who come by their place. When the mailman came, they invited him to have some of their food. Also, when a friend stopped by who was not a member, they let her join in on the festivities.

The theme for the party was "Favorite Things." They opened the theme by playing and singing to Julie Andrew's "My Favorite Things." Some members brought in and passed around their favorite items. Others talked about their favorite things or experiences. A common favorite for the members was the enjoyment of giving to others.

The group then listened to and sang a song by opera singer Bryn Tersel called "God Be With You (Till We Meet Again)."

The sun came out in time for Father Walter Werbicki's appearance who came at the end of the meeting and gave a prayer and led the group in a song. He then blessed the new mural Christopher painted on the side of her garage.
