Girls to get acquainted at Fellowship Church
BROCTON - On Monday at 1 p.m., the young girls' mentoring group will meet at Fellowship Church for a "get acquainted" session. All the girls in the community who are high school age through 30 are welcome to come and share their goals for the future and plans to meet those goals. Those attending are encouraged to bring a friend.
Church to hold giant rummage sale
SOUTH DAYTON - The South Dayton United Methodist Church is having a giant rummage sale on Friday, Aug. 10 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A bag sale will be on Saturday at noon. There is a bake sale on both days.
Laona plans underwater-themed VBS
LAONA - All are welcome to join in for "Operation Overboard," Going Deep with God, at the Laona United Methodist Church. The Vacation Bible School will be starting on Monday, Aug. 6 and go until Friday, Aug. 10 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. This will be for ages three through sixth grade (the grade that has just been completed at the end of the school year).
There will be games, snacks, crafts, music and stories acted out from the Bible. This will involve an octopus called Ocho and a fish by the name of Oogle. They will explore and talk about many things. An admission fee will be taken at nightly offerings, with funds going to a cause called "Operation Smile."
There will be an adult class as well led by Pastor Mike Spell. It is entitled "Making Sense of God's Will," by Adam Hamilton. This too will start at 6:30 p.m.
The church is located on the corner of Wilson and Porter streets in Laona.

Forestville church plans 'Babylon'
FORESTVILLE - Forestville United Methodist Church invites families to Babylon: Daniel's Courage In Captivity. The summer family event will be hosted at the church from Aug. 13 to 17, 6 to 8 p.m. each day. Families step back in time at Babylon, exploring Daniel's adventures as a captive in a foreign land. Children and adults participate in a memorable Bible-times Marketplace, sing catchy songs, play teamwork building games, dig into Bible-times snacks, visit Daniel and collect Bible Memory Makers to remind them of God's Word. Plus, everyone learns to look for evidence of God all around them through something called "God Sightings." Each day concludes at "Celebration," a time of upbeat worship that gets everyone involved.
