Pacos Family Reunion
The 36th annual Pacos family reunion was held on July 13 and 14. On Friday night, some family members gathered at Rookie's in Dunkirk for an informal happy hour.
On Saturday morning, family golf enthusiasts met at Hillview Golf Course in Fredonia for the third annual Pacos Reunion Golf Tournament. This year's winners were Susan Zanghi and Robert Zanghi. They both received trophies donated by Gary Hermann and will have their names added to the permanent Pacos Golf Tournament Trophy.
Starting at noon on Saturday, 37 family members and three guests gathered at the lower pavilion in the Russell R. Joy Park in Fredonia. Those attending were from Florida, North Carolina, Maryland, Wisconsin, Lackawanna, Cassadaga, Westfield, Dunkirk and Fredonia.
The annual meeting was held with a moment of silence and prayer observed for all family members who are ill or deceased and for all armed service personnel no matter where they may be stationed.
One wedding, one first communion, three confirmations, three high school graduations, two college graduations and one master's degree were recorded.
Jennifer Zanghi was commissioned on May 13 as a second lieutenant in the United States Army at Clarkson University, Potsdam. She is currently in San Antonio, Texas for Pre-Flight training after which she will report to Fort Rucker, Ala., for training as a helicopter pilot.
Trips taken this year by family members were to Hawaii and Texas and from Florida and North Carolina and Maryland to New York and from Afghanistan to New York.
Next year's reunion will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2013, in the lower shelter at the Russell R. Joy Park starting at noon with the buffet dinner at 2 p.m. Family members are reminded to mark this date down and notify any family members out of town. Leo Pacos, Jr. volunteered to reserve the lower pavilion. Mackenzie Schanzlin said she would contact those family members not on Facebook. Facebook members are usually contacted by Gary Pacos. Robert Zanghi will again make arrangements for the annual Golf Tournament on Saturday morning and if there is enough interest, Roger Pacos will arrange a happy hour.
