Twenty years ago - 1992

The Silver Creek-Irving Chamber of Commerce recently held a 5-kilometer Walk-A-Thon which raised more than $1,100 for the relocation and restoration of the Ward-Dickinson Dining Car. Despite the rain, more than 20 walkers participated. The top raising individual was Chris Toy of Silver Creek, who raised $179. Second place, with $90 raised, was a tie between Morgan Seegert and Louise Putzback. Lu Czarnecki walked on behalf of many area businesses and raised $509.

Thirty years ago - 1982

Chris Quiter of Maltbie Road, Gowanda and his sister, Cindy Harkness of Holly were winners in the open horse show at the Cattaraugus County Fair. Mr. Quiter took first place in local western pleasure competition. Mrs. Harkness took fourth place in hunter seat equitation. They are the children of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Quiter of Maltbie Road, Gowanda.

Forty years ago - 1972

The third annual tractor pull sponsored by Hanover Hose Co. No. 1 of the Silver Creek Fire Department attracted well over 2,000 spectators and participants at the fire hall grounds at Hanover Center.

Fifty years ago - 1962

At the annual picnic of the Shakespeare Club of Silver Creek held at the Van Buren Lodge, President Lucy Cook noted the club is entering its 74th year of continuous activity.
