John M. Rishell, 84, of 416 Chautauqua Ave., died at 5:35 p.m. Friday (July 27, 2012) in UPMC Hamot in Erie, Pa. He was born March 3, 1928 in Ellicottville, N.Y., the son of Glenn B. and Mary Ann Mould Rishell. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he served in the South Pacific and China as a Seaman First Class
aboard LST 127. He had been employed for 28 years as a firefighter with the City of Jamestown, retiring in 1982 with the rank of Lieutenant. Following his retirement he worked at South Hills Country Club and at Southern Tier Crematory. He was a member of Zion Covenant Church, where he served as an usher
for many years; was a life member and former Post Commander and former Post Quartermaster of John W. Tiffany Post 53, Veterans of Foreign Wars;

was a past Commander of the Chautauqua County Veterans of Foreign Wars, was a past District 6 Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was a life
member of the LST Association. He was also a member of Ira Lou Spring Post 149 American Legion, Ingjald Lodge 65, Independent Order of Vikings, and
the South Hills Country Club. An avid golfer, he had scored two holes-in-one during his career. He will be remembered for his willingness to assist his
friends, especially those in failing health, to be able to get out and attend various activities and functions. Surviving are three sons: David B. (Sandy) Rishell,
Jerry R. (Michele) Rishell, and Wayne J. (Victoria) Rishell, all of Jamestown; three grandchildren: Judith K. LeRoy and Jennifer M. Rishell, both of Columbus,
Oh., and John D. Rishell of Pittsburgh, Pa.; four great grandchildren: Spenser and Sarah LeRoy, both of Columbus, Oh., and Lillian and Emily Rishell, both of
Pittsburgh, Pa.; a sister, D. Germayne Larsen of Conewango Valley; and his feline companion, Snickers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly
Carlson Rishell, whom he married Oct. 22, 1949 in Jamestown, and who died July 22, 1993; a daughter, Sally A. Rishell; twin great grandsons: Nathan and
Luke Rishell; and by a brother, Glenn J. Rishell. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Zion Covenant Church. The Rev. Rick Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, where members of John W. Tiffany Post 53 VFW will conduct military honors. The family will receive friends from 2 4 and 6
