July 31, 2012
The OBSERVER

Chautauqua County Sheriff Joseph Gerace set the record straight on Freedom of Information Law requests on Monday.

In a note, sent by e-mail, Gerace says: "I just wanted to let you know what we charge for motor vehicle accident reports. Any report that is requested under FOIL the charge is 25 cents (per sheet of paper)

"If a person comes to our office for the report, we do not charge a fee. We provide it for free.

"We do offer an option for people to acquire the accident report online. This is done through a third-party company. The cost is $5 for which we receive $2. This option is offered for the convenience of those who want the report instantly."
