Twenty years ago - 1992
The Allegheny Highlands Council, Boy Scouts of America, broke ground on a year-round program and development center at its Camp Merz property in Mayville. The project is funded through a grant from the Gebbie Foundation. The new building will house meeting rooms and offices for the summer camping program. Two large dormitory-style rooms will be available for coed groups wishing to utilize the camp from September to May. The new facility will also have shower and restroom facilities as well as a kitchenette.
Thirty years ago - 1982
Elaine Mulville, owner of the Heritage House in the Russo Bldg., Fredonia has been presented the 1981 Carlson Craft Outstanding Dealer award. The special recognition is for loyalty, cooperation, sales achievement and service to customers.
Forty years ago - 1972
A proposal to condemn the fairgrounds and make it into a housing development was greeted enthusiastically by some of the participants at a joint meeting of the Dunkirk Board of Education and representatives of the Chamber of Commerce, city government and the Urban Renewal Agency.
Fifty years ago - 1962
James Elias, owner of Jim's Dry Cleaners Inc., 108 East Fourth St., Dunkirk has announced he has purchased the property on the southwest corner of East Fourth and Leopard streets and will construct a new dry cleaning plant there. The site was formerly occupied by St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church.
