OBSERVER Staff Report

JAMESTOWN - A Jamestown man was taken into custody after he allegedly stole thousands of dollars as a Moose Lodge 1681 administrator at East Fifth Street in Jamestown between 2006 and 2011.

The Jamestown Police Department Monday announced the arrest of Walter Conkright Jr. of 115 Forest Ave. after an investigation by the department, the state Racing and Wagering Board, the county District Attorney's Office and Moose International.

New York State Racing and Wagering investigators conducted numerous interviews and audits of the local Moose Lodge finding that over $100,000 is unaccounted for. Conkright was charged with third-degree grand larceny, taking money over $3,000 but less than $50,000.

Police said Moose International was instrumental in the investigation, providing both physical and material support. Moose International employs a zero tolerance for fraudulent actions within the organization and stresses violators will be prosecuted to the fullest.

Conkright was sent to the county jail and is awaiting bail recommendation from the District Attorney's office.
