‘United’ efforts to assist

August 2, 2012
The OBSERVER

There's an army of "Live United" white shirts taking to the streets and non-profit agencies.

Those in the white shirts are employees of area businesses, hospitals and colleges. And all are pitching in as part of Community Caring Week, which is sponsored by the United Way of Northern Chautauqua County.

The event, which runs through Friday, includes workers from Nestle Purina, Fredonia State University, Lake Shore Savings Bank, Walmart, the Lake Erie Regional Health Care System and Welch's. Some of the agencies being assisted during the week are the Chautauqua County Rural Ministry, Meals on Wheels, Campus and Community Children's Center, Girl Scouts, Chautauqua Adult Day Care, the Westfield YWCA, the Westfield Community Kitchen and the Boys and Girls Club of Northern Chautauqua County.

Said Joyce Harvard Smith of Fredonia State, an eight-year Community Caring volunteer: "It's a way of giving back to the community."

Exactly.
