National Marina Day to be celebrated Saturday

August 2, 2012
The OBSERVER

MAYVILLE - On National Marina Day marinas across the United States are asked to celebrate and promote their industry by inviting politicians, civic leaders and the public to their facilities to show them the important role marinas play across the nation as family-friendly gateways to boating, and the responsibility marina personnel have as stewards of the environment.

How did National Marina Day begin? In February 2001, AMI's Board of Directors, sensing a need to promote the marina industry's already positive image, approved the creation of a national grassroots, public education initiative called National Marina Day. In the summer of 2001, AMI officially proclaimed the second Saturday of August (this has since (changed to June) as National Marina Day. Chautauqua Marina recognizes National Marina Day in June; however we still celebrate it in August.

National Marina Day, officially titled this year as "Lake Day" will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. during the National Marina Day Celebration at Chautauqua Marina. The public is invited to join in on some of the free classes and events. This year's event "Lake Day" at Chautauqua Marina is sponsored by CWC (Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy), CLA (Chautauqua Lake Association), and CLMC (Chautauqua Lake Management Commission) and is hosted by Chautauqua Marina. The event is free and is our way of saying, "Thank You" to the community."
