See if you are owed some of N.Y.'s $12B

in unclaimed funds

New Yorkers can find out if they are owed some of the state's $12 billion in unclaimed funds at events across the state in August.

Representatives from the comptroller's office will be on site at the events listed below to help New Yorkers find out if they are owed money. New Yorkers may also check for unclaimed funds at www.osc.state.ny.us or by calling toll free at 1-800-221-9311.

Tuesday - 6 to 10 p.m., National Night Out Celebration, Gazebo at Main and Centers streets, Angola.

Aug. 8-19 - 10 a.m to 10 p.m., Erie County Fair, McKinley Parkway, Erie County Fairgrounds, Hamburg.

Texaco Country Showdown contestants set for local auditions

Brandan Yeskey, Laura Pfleuger, Margie Nelson, Shannon Ryan, Michelle Atlee Davis, Kristal Zarczynski and Sierrah Rounds will move on to the auditions to be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Village Casino in Bemus Point. Doors will open at noon and the auditions will be held in the concert hall upstairs. All moved on from the preliminary auditions held at the Chautauqua County Fair. Contestants who move on from the local auditions on Sunday will advance to the state finals held on Aug. 26 in Washingtonville. Those who move on from the state finals will move on to the regional finals and potentially the national finals held in Nashville.

Barker Library offering classes for Kindle users

The Darwin R. Barker Library is offering the class Downloading OverDrive ebooks for the Kindle.

Learn how to search for, check out, place holds on and download ebooks using your Kindle device and the Chautauqua Cattaraugus Library System's OverDrive service.

The class will be held Tuesday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. or Aug. 14 from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Participants should bring their Kindle or Kindle-enabled device, USB cords (if applicable), and their Amazon account username and password to class. Also, if you do not know your current library card number and 4-digit PIN, see the Circulation Desk.

Registration is required and class size is limited.
