Brocton names top students

BROCTON - The Brocton Teachers' Association announces its selections for Student of the Month for June.

The middle school honoree is seventh-grader Jennifer Palmer, daughter of Jonathan and Wendy Palmer of Brocton. Jenny is a cheerleader for the Brocton Midgets Football team, a member of the Brocton Leadership program, Junior Honor Society and Drama Club. She is also involved in the chorus and an honor roll student. Her future plans include going to college to become a chef owning her own restaurant or being a pediatrician.

The high school honoree is senior Abbigale Lee DeLand, daughter of Michael and Angela DeLand of Brocton. Abbi has been involved in many activities; both for the community and the school. During her four years in high school, Abbi has participated in the following clubs, activities or sports: Interact Club, Peer Leader for Sources of Strength, writer for The Brocton Review, Student Council, Volleyball, Basketball, Softball, and dancer for Tap 'n Toes and gymnastics. She has received the following awards: Triple "C," Principal's Lunch, WDOE Athlete of the Week, Rotary Student of the Month and BTA Student of the Month. She has also held the office of secretary for the band, chorus and senior class. Abbi's community service is also quite extensive - member of the Brocton Booster Club, volunteer at Special Olympics, dance demonstrator, nursery babysitter for church, but most importantly she is a big sister. She has also been a Girl Scout for 13 years, holds lifeguard certification, helps out for her church's ham dinner, babysits and is a summer camp program aid. Abbi plans to attend Edinboro University in the fall.
