The library has been host to a variety of performers this summer as part of the reading program, and is offering prize drawings each week to children who read books and tell us something they liked about the books they have read. There are also many new children's books available in the library, thanks to generous funding from the Kiwanis Foundation of Silver Creek and the Friends of the Anderson-Lee Library.
The library will also be awarding a grand prize at the end of the Summer Reading Program a new BMX bicycle and helmet, generously donated by Silver Creek summer resident Luis Alcivar, in loving memory of his mother Silvana Alcivar. He founded the nonprofit organization, KarmaRacer, whose mission is to spread the love of bikes, teach the discipline of cycling, and to provide bicycles to those who cannot afford them. Through this donation he hopes to encourage children to develop both their love of reading and riding.
To be eligible to win the bicycle, children must enter a poster contest at the library (details for entering are available at the library, and posters must be submitted by Aug. 18. The bicycle drawing will be held on Saturday, Aug. 25.
