Twenty years ago - 1992

Among the visitors to the recent Chautauqua County Fair was former vice presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro, who toured the fair while asking area residents for their support in her bid to unseat Sen. Alphonse D'Amato in the November election. Ferraro first must win a primary election against several other well-known Democrats who are seeking their party's nomination.

Thirty years ago - 1982

Dr. John W. Wendell of Fredonia has closed his office on West Fourth Street, Dunkirk and retired from general surgery. A practicing surgeon for 32 years, Dr. Wendell has lived in the Dunkirk-Fredonia area for the same number of years. He and Mrs. Wendell, who reside at 19 Middlesex Drive, plan to remain in the area.

Forty years ago - 1972

The Portland Historical Museum, once an abandoned railroad depot, was dedicated recently with more than 200 area residents in attendance.

Fifty years ago - 1962

Mrs. Connie Schultz, 28 Lodi St., Forestville is a winner of a trip to Mexico for two in Kobacker's recent Cannon towel carnival and contest, part of a nationwide promotion.
