Michael E. Pacos, 92, of Dunkirk passed away Wednesday morning (Aug. 8, 2012) after a brief illness.
Born Oct. 30, 1919 in Jarocin, Poland, he was the son of the late Anthony and Agnes (Swiercz) Pacos. He immigrated to the United States on Jan. 13, 1923.
During World War II, Mr. Pacos served in the U.S. Army as a Technician 4th Grade in Company "B" 818 Engineer Aviation Battalion from 1942 to 1945.

After being honorably discharged, he worked at U.S. Radiator and Warren Brothers Contracting. In 1950, with his devoted wife by his side, he began Pacos Construction Co. Inc., a heavy highway construction company, specializing in asphalt paving, concrete construction, sewer and waterline projects.
In addition to his love for operating heavy equipment, Mike enjoyed traveling with his wife to the Virgin Islands, Nassau, Puerto Rico and Las Vegas. He enjoyed spending the winter months in sunny Florida and was fond of the greyhound race track. He also had fun playing poker at the First Ward Falcon Club summer picnic and the Dunkirk Policemen's picnic. Mike was also known to have after work "meetings" at Gorka's tavern in Dunkirk.
He was a long-standing trustee of St. Hyacinth Church and a member of the First Ward Falcon Club and St. Hyacinth's Men's Club.
Survivors include his loving wife, Dorothy (Korzeniewski) Pacos; three sons, James (Linda) Pacos of Fuqua-Varina, N.C., Patrick Pacos of Dunkirk, Dr. Andrew Pacos of Wake Forest, N.C.; and a daughter, Paulette Pacos of Dunkirk. Michael was the proud grandfather of 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his oldest son, Dennis Pacos, who died in 1978.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9 o'clock from the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 o'clock in Blessed Mary Angela Parish Church of St. Hyacinth. Burial will be in St. Hyacinth's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
