In four years, an amazing thing has happened.
Born out of a tragic accident in 2009 involving Nathan George, the foundation in his name is leaving its mark in the area when it comes to assisting sports teams, local athletes and students. This weekend, the foundation is holding its fourth annual softball tournament.
Through the work of the group's committee, spearheaded by Michael Cerrie, the organization's giving has continued to grow and the number of teams participating in the tournament is also increasing.
"The first year we did it, Nate passed in May and we had a tournament in September," Cerrie noted earlier this summer. "And that first year was so successful and after having a year to plan for it, we've held the course and gotten better each year."
This year's tournament is full, which is good news for the area.
The Nathan George Foundation has been very generous to the community in four years. That's a tribute to all those who have been a part of the board and its fund-raising events.
