Power outage on Central Avenue in city

August 12, 2012
By DIANE R. CHODAN - OBSERVER Staff Writer , The OBSERVER

About six customers of National Grid located on Central Avenue in Dunkirk between Greco Lane were in the dark Sunday evening.

A resident of Central Avenue from one of the affected houses explained that a truck leaving the fairgrounds hit an electrical transformer and knocked it and a wire down on Central Avenue in Dunkirk. A police officer directing traffic said that was what he heard on the scanner.

The Dunkirk Fire Department and police department responded to the scene. Two police officers, one at Greco Lane and another at Walldorff Road, rerouted traffic around the area.

Central Avenue was reopened at about 9:45 p.m.

A spokesman for National Grid said a crew was being sent to replace the transformer, and the company hoped to restore power early this morning.
